A Review After the First Month

I ordered the monsoon-ready potting mix and a bag of neem cake from Maha Garden at the start of June, right before the rains hit Ahmedabad. The mix arrived in a sturdy, resealable bag with a printed label listing the exact ratio of coco peat, perlite, and compost. No vague "organic blend" wording — just the ingredients and a note that it was mixed two days before dispatch.

I repotted my basil, mint, and two chilli plants the same evening. The mix was moist but not soggy, and it held its structure when I lifted the root ball out of the nursery pot. Over the next four weeks, the basil grew noticeably faster than the batch I had planted in regular garden soil. The mint stayed compact, and the chillies set flowers without any yellowing at the leaf edges.

The neem cake was the bigger surprise. I had read about it for pest control but never tried it properly. I mixed a handful into the top layer of each pot and watered it in. By the third week, the fungus gnats that had been circling my terrace plants were gone. The smell was strong for the first two days, but it faded quickly once the soil dried out.

What I appreciated most was the follow-up. A week after delivery, I got a short email asking how the plants were doing and whether the mix had drained well during the first heavy rain. I replied with a photo of the basil, and they suggested I move the mint to a slightly shadier corner. That kind of practical advice is why I will order from them again.

One small issue: the bag was heavier than I expected, and the courier left it at the gate rather than bringing it to my door. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing if you live on an upper floor. Overall, a solid first month with healthier plants and fewer pests than any previous season.
